Just Another Tuesday
When I opened my company and got my general contractors’ license I really thought jobs would keep flowing in, I don't know from where, and I would be busy doing manual labor all day on the job site, with my team that I enjoy working with, and be very fulfilled just using my body and my brain every day.
Instead, I opened a big can of worms (opening a company). At least 50% of the time I have to be posting on social media, planning ads and flyers, networking with referral partners and other business owners in the area, meeting with my bookkeeper for planning taxes and filing report, designing and redesigning my website, managing budgets, subcontractors, clients, suppliers. It's a lot of f-ing work. I've heard plenty of people complain that they're in this business to do what they love, not be making cool videos online and I totally get that. I'm in the exact same boat. But it's more fun for me to just go with the flow and suck it up and learn how to post learn how to design, code, do bookkeeping, etc. It's an insane amount of work that I never expected and even when I am on a job site, I'm often checking my phone messages, making calls and squeezing in any admin tasks that I can.
Every day has a different ratio of admin work, errands for supplies, going out and doing estimates, coming home and putting together the estimate, meeting referral partners for coffee and learning about their business and also what they've learned being in the business, walking around neighborhoods passing out flyers, posting videos and articles for this blog.
I feel like every day - especially on admin days - I really don't know what the heck I'm doing with my time yet somehow I'm so stressed and so busy.
